A variety of scripts are pre-installed in the “Scripts” folder. Feel free to edit or delete them to your heart’s content. Here is a brief description of the default scripts:
1) About The Scripts Menu… This script briefly describes the Scripts menu.
2) Adding Menu Shortcuts… This script explains how to add command key shortcuts to the Scripts menu. To see which shortcuts are not already in use, check out the “Available Cmd-Key Shortcuts” document in the Scripts folder.
3) Block Format Quote Use this script to “Block Format” text which has already been blocked. This would be useful when quoting text that had already been quoted in an email exchange.
4) Colorize HTML Tags This script will change all bracketed text (such as HTML Tags) to red and all special character tags to blue. Example: <b>crime & punishment</b>
5) Convert HTML -> Mac This script allows you to easily read HTML documents by decoding most simple HTML tags as well as special character tags.
6) Convert Mac -> HTML This script will turn the active document into a web page! (The original document is not affected.) Proper HTML style and color tags are maintained. Many special characters, such as the ampersand and quote, are also converted to their HTML equivalents. This script may take a while to run, depending on your computer’s speed, so be patient.
• To create a horizontal line separator, insert a hyphen (-) on a line by itself.
• To create an unordered (bulleted) list, start each new line of the list with an asterisk (*).
• To create headers, format the header paragraph using larger font sizes (14, 18 and 24).
7) Convert Mac -> PC This script converts fancy Mac typographical characters to plain ASCII equivalents and also reformats the line endings so the document will be easily readable by DOS computers.
8) Convert PC -> Mac This script will clean up DOS-formatted documents, making the document easier to view on the Mac.
9) Get Info… This will display several interesting characteristics for any file you choose.
10) Number Lines This script will add line endings and then precede each line with a line number.
11) Open Scripts Folder This script will open the Scripts folder in the Finder for housekeeping purposes.
12) Print Envelope To quickly print out a properly-addressed envelope, select the address (2, 3, or 4 lines) in your letter. This script will open an addressed envelope document and then display the Print dialog. Before using this script for the first time, open the “Envelope” stationery pad document (in the Scripts folder) and personalize the return address and Page Setup information (for your printer) so the default envelope prints correctly.
13) Quit Now This script is useful if you want to quit quickly without saving any changes in any documents. (Danger!)
14) Shareware Registration This script demonstration allows you to easily create a shareware registration document.
15) Small Caps This script will convert the selected text to a simulation of the SMALL CAPS style.
16) Sort Selection This script sorts the selected paragraphs of text alphabetically.
17) Speak File… This script will read the chosen document aloud. Notice that a different voice is used to read bold paragraphs, allowing for some interesting effects. (With minor modifications, you could have each part of a play read by a different voice!)
18) Startup Any script named “Startup” is automatically executed when Tex-Edit is launched, if “Run Startup Script” is selected in the Preferences dialog. This script is simply a demonstration.
19) Trans-Tex Home Page This script will take you to our web site to get the latest version of Tex-Edit!
20) Twiddle This script swaps the two characters preceding the cursor. This is useful for fixing a common typo.
21) Zoom All This script zooms all open windows.
22) Zoom This sample script simply zooms the top window.
